“When does the… sky kite season start  .. mmmh what is the name of this sport in St Moritz?”

Hello kiter, I think it’s useful to be able to answer very briefly the above question that a kitesurf student asked me on Lake Como. Many of us already miss the wind and don’t want to wait a minute longer to have the feeling of theharness that makes a pressure in the hips. One possibility in winter is snowkiting (who still remembers the name of this sport?). Kiting on the snow may seem insane at first sight and must therefore be tried out.

But where and when and how?

Where we find a dreamlike valley with a smooth snow-covered surface: the famous Engadin valley, in which the beautiful lake of Silvaplana is located, that freezes in winter and is covered with a lot of snow. For beginner such a large and flat surface is ideal, also due to the thermal wind from the south, the Maloja wind, which in summer attracts enthusiasts from all over the world. In winter 5 knots are enough to have fun with very light soft kites like Flysurfer’s PeakFrom the end of November you can book your lessons with us. You need skis or snowboard. Kite and harness are included in the course.

You don’t have to be good at skier, you just have to be able to brake a snowplow. It is also possible with a snowboard, but it is a little more difficult while you can get going on skis in 3 hours! With a little practice and for those who can already control a kite very well, adrenaline experiences open up, for example climbing the mountain from Lago Bianco at the Bernina Pass with the snowkite and skiing down freeride …

See you soon in Silvaplana Sara (your teacher in Engadin and at the Como Lake 😉 )
